Youth Sports: Free-throw contest winners advance to district event

Cohoes Council No. 192 Knights of Columbus hosted the 2017 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship contest on Jan. 14 for girls and boys ages 9 to 14 at the Cohoes Community Center.

Contest winners are: Gabriella Hartman, 9; Charlie Gendron, 10; Julia Hartman, 10; Bryce Hancock, 11; Julia Marcil, 11; Jake Doemel, 12; Dominick Hartman, 13; and Brooke Curtin, 14.

The event was organized by Ken Burns of the Cohoes Knights of Columbus, along with volunteers from the Cohoes Girls Varsity basketball team, including head coach Morgan Blizinski, assistant coaches Pedro Cradle and Bailei Tetrault, and players Sam Dayter and Riley Hansbury.

"We're thankful to the Cohoes Community Center and the parents and volunteers that helped make the annual contest fun for the kids," said Ken Burns, Cohoes Knights of Columbus Chancellor, in a release. "It's important for local community organizations to offer fun and family-friendly activities that help support the community."

Participants in this contest competed at the local level with winners advancing to district and potentially state competitions. The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with over 1.8 million members in 14,500 local councils.
